A DMK functionary from Arakkonam in Tamil Nadu’s Ranipet district has been suspended from the party following allegations by his wife, who accused him of torture, sexual harassment, and ‘grooming’ young women for politicians. Her claims have sparked a massive political controversy in the state.
The accused, Deivaseyal, who reportedly held the post of Deputy Secretary in the DMK’s youth wing, is alleged to have coerced 20-year-old women into “sleeping with politicians," according to his wife.
The suspension came shortly after the Commission for Women (NCW) took suo motu cognisance of media reports, describing the allegations as “disturbing" and “grave." NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has written to the Tamil Nadu Director General of Police, urging an immediate, fair, and transparent investigation.
The Commission has also directed the Tamil Nadu Police to register a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and to submit a detailed Action Taken Report along with a copy of the FIR within three days.
