US President Donald Trump said that Russia and Ukraine could reach an agreement “this week" to end the war which started in 2022. He posted on his Truth Social platform that both Moscow and Kyiv could bring “big business" to the United States and “make a fortune" after the signing of the peace deal.

“Hopefully Russia amd (sic) Ukraine will make a deal this week. Both will then start to do big business with the United States of America, which is thriving, and make a big fortune!", he wrote.

Donald Trump has been pushing for a peace deal between the two countries since he took over from Joe Biden in January this year. Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Washington could “move on" from its push to broker an agreement to end the conflict. He said, after high-level discussions with European and Ukrainian leaders, “We need to figure out here now within a matter of days whether this is doable in the short term, because if it’s not, then I think we’re just going to move on."

“We’re not going to continue with this endeavour for weeks and months on end. So we need to determine very quickly now, and I’m talking about a matter of days whether or not this is doable in the next few weeks. If it is, we’re in. If it’s not, then we have other priorities to focus on as well," he added.
