Earthquake Of Magnitude 5.8 Hits Afghanistan, Tremors Felt In J&K

The quake, with its epicenter near the border area between Afghanistan and Tajikistan, also shook Pakistan's capital, Islamabad, and its northern areas.

An earthquake of magnitude 5.8 on the Richter scale hit Afghanistan at 12:17 pm (IST) on Saturday. Tremors of the quake were also felt in parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad.

A visual shared by ANI from Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch shows fans in homes shaking due to the tremors.

A local from Srinagar said that he felt the tremor when he was working in his office. According to the Center for Seismology, the epicenter was 396 kilometers northwest of Srinagar.

Third Earthquake In Pakistan Within A Week

An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 shook Pakistan on Saturday. This is the third time in a week that Pakistan has been hit by a quake. According to the Seismological Center, this earthquake was recorded at a depth of 94 kilometers, with its epicenter being located near the border area between Afghanistan and Tajikistan.

In Pakistan, tremors were felt in Islamabad, Lahore, and other districts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Earlier on April 12, an earthquake of 5.5 magnitude hit Pakistan, with its epicenter being recorded 60 km north-west of Rawalpindi.

Another quake with 5.6 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Hindukush region on April 16. Pakistan is located in a geologically active region where the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates collide.
