Billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk said that his social media platform X was hit by a “massive cyberattack" and claimed that the attack was traced back to Ukraine.

The platform experienced multiple outages throughout the day on Monday, repeatedly going offline, recovering briefly, and crashing again. Some users faced problems in loading X posts, while others reported difficulty in accessing in-app services.

“We’re not sure exactly what happened, but there was a massive cyberattack to try to bring down the X system with IP addresses originating in the Ukraine area," Musk said in an interview with Fox Business Channel.

When questioned about the platform’s status, Musk responded, “It’s up."

Earlier on Monday, Musk confirmed a “massive cyberattack" targeted X, prompting outages for thousands of users, who claimed that the platform suffered crashes multiple times.

“We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources. Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved. Tracing…" Musk wrote on X.

Musk’s response came after his supporters claimed multiple attacks targeting the tech billionaire, following reports of attacks on Tesla stores across the US.

The outrage is largely attributed to Tesla CEO Musk’s involvement with the US President Donald Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which focuses on reducing the federal workforce and cutting government spending.

Massive X Outage

Reports of outages on X surged early Monday, peaking around 3:30 am and again at 10 am, with over 40,000 users unable to access the platform.

According to DownDetector, which monitors disruptions using various sources, including user-submitted error reports, the issue affected a significant number of users.

Data revealed that over 17,871 complaints were recorded about difficulties accessing the platform at around 3:20 pm. Users again complained of outages at 7:32 pm and 9:32 pm, according to DownDetector.

As per the website, 56 per cent of users faced problems with the app, while 33 per cent reported issues with the website. Meanwhile, 11 per cent of users encountered server connection errors.
