Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday said he had spoken at “great length" with Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the ongoing situation in the West Asia region.

The Israeli leader also thanked PM Modi for “standing with Israel, standing with the Jews" in their fight against Iran.

Speaking to the media from a site in Israel hit by an Iranian missile, Netanyahu confirmed that he had spoken with Prime Minister Modi.

“I spoke to our great friend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I spoke to him at great length yesterday. I thank him for standing with Israel, standing with the Jews and for the enormous friendship of the people of India. They are much admired and love. I won’t get into the details of the conversations but I have spoken to him (Modi), and I have spoken to many other leaders in the region and beyond," the Israeli Prime Minister said.

Netanyahu’s comments come after Prime Minister Modi had earlier said that he had spoken with his Israeli counterpart about the ongoing situation, conveying India’s concerns over the latest developments and emphasising the importance of protecting civilians.

“Had a telephone call with PM Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the current regional situation. Conveyed India’s concerns over recent developments and emphasised the safety of civilians as a priority. India reiterates the need for an early cessation of hostilities," PM Modi shared in a post on X.

The telephonic conversation took place in the wake of the US and Israeli attacks on Iran, which led to the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

In retaliation, Iran launched drones and missiles at Israeli and US military installations around the Gulf, as well as at the global business and aviation hubs of Dubai and Doha.
