Indian-American Congressman Shri Thanedar filed articles of impeachment against President Donald J. Trump, accusing him of "sweeping abuse of power," "acts of tyranny," and "flagrant violations" of the US Constitution.

"I have introduced articles of impeachment against President Trump," Thanedar said in his announcement online. "Trump’s attacks on due process, birthright citizenship, humanitarian aid, and the courts are not ‘politics.’ They are a direct attack on our democracy. Enough is enough – I am introducing articles of impeachment against him," Thanedar wrote on X.

The resolution introduces seven articles of impeachment spanning a wide range of alleged misconduct, from obstruction of justice and abuse of executive power to bribery, corruption, and the creation of unlawful government offices.

Amongst the charges, Thanedar cites Trump’s denial of due process, unlawful deportations, misuse of the Department of Justice, and the controversial establishment of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) with Elon Musk allegedly empowered to bypass constitutional limits.

The impeachment articles also accuse Trump of retaliating against critics and the media, undermining the First Amendment, and pursuing international aggression through reckless tariffs and threats of military action.

Thanedar stressed that immediate action is necessary: “We cannot wait for more damage to be done. Congress must act.” However, the measures are unlikely to progress, given Republican control of both the House and Senate.
