The latest batch of Epstein files released by the Department of Justice has revealed an email that mentions filmmaker Mira Nair, the mother of democratic socialist politician Zohran Mamdani, in connection with a high-profile afterparty held in 2009.

According to the newly disclosed documents, the email was sent by publicist Peggy Siegal to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein on October 21, 2009. The message described an afterparty hosted at the New York townhouse of Ghislaine Maxwell, who was later convicted of sex trafficking-related crimes.

The event followed a screening of the film Amelia, a biographical drama directed by Nair. In her email, Siegal wrote:[

“Just left Ghislaine’s townhouse…after party for film."

She went on to list several prominent figures she said were present at the gathering.

“Bill Clinton and Jeff Bezos were there…Jean Pigozzi, director MIra Nair…etc. Film received tepid reaction though women like it much more…Hillary Swank and [Richard] Gere are at stupid party in Bloomingdales cheap sportswear department…very weird," the email 

Siegal also shared her personal assessment of the film’s response at the time. “Film received tepid reaction though women like it much more," she wrote, offering a brief commentary on audience feedback.

The message further mentioned other celebrity appearances at a separate promotional event, which Siegal described in dismissive terms. “Hillary Swank and [Richard] Gere are at stupid party in Bloomingdales cheap sportswear department…very weird," the email said.

She added more detail about the promotional strategy, writing, “Studio went for free party from store and windows for a month… Going to be in Wall Street 2 tomorrow ….more to come. xoxo Peg."

Amelia, released in 2009, starred Hilary Swank as pioneering aviator Amelia Earhart and Richard Gere as her husband, publisher George Putnam.

The email is part of a wider release of Epstein-related records that continue to shed light on his social connections and the figures who moved within the same elite circles during that period. The documents do not allege wrongdoing by those mentioned in the correspondence but have drawn attention due to Epstein and Maxwell’s later criminal cases.
