German Chancellor Olaf Scholz hosted his French and Polish counterparts in Berlin in a bid to project European unity in support of Ukraine. Europe’s three leading military powers agreed to step up the worldwide purchase of ammunition for Ukraine, including long-range artillery. Differences over the response to Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine have deepened between Paris and Berlin in recent weeks. Tusk hailed the meeting with Macron and Scholz as “a good new beginning for the Weimar Triangle, a great format which we will all profit from”.
