An explosion at US Steel's Clairton Coke Works near Pittsburgh has trapped people under rubble. Emergency workers are on site. No confirmed fatalities yet.

An explosion at a US Steel coking plant near Pittsburgh on Monday has left people trapped under the rubble, with emergency workers on site trying to rescue them, an official said.

According to Abigail Gardner, director of communications for Allegheny County, there are no confirmed fatalities yet at the Clairton Coke Works.

Allegheny County Emergency Services reported that a fire broke out at the plant at around 10:51 a.m., with five people transported from the scene. The agency did not share further information about those individuals and described the situation only as an “active scene."

The Clairton Coke Works, a massive industrial facility along the Monongahela River south of Pittsburgh, is considered the largest coking operation in North America.
