Iran on Thursday refuted claims about an attack on Oman’s oil facilities, terming it a “false flag operation’. In a post on X, the Iranian Embassy in South Africa said, “The attack on Oman’s oil facilities is a false flag operation. Iran had no role in it."

This comes a day after drone strikes hit fuel storage tanks at the port of Salalah in Oman on Wednesday, according to the country’s state television. Despite the incident, authorities said the country’s oil supply and petroleum distribution remain stable.

Oman’s state news agency, quoting an official from the energy ministry, said the attack had not disrupted the flow of oil or petroleum products in the country.

British maritime security firm Ambrey reported that oil storage facilities at the Omani port were targeted during the incident. The company added that no merchant ships in the area were damaged.

Shipping giant Maersk said operations at the Port of Salalah have been suspended until further notice following the attack.

Meanwhile, Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian spoke with Haitham bin Tariq by phone, Iranian media reported. During the conversation, Pezeshkian said the incident involving the Salalah port would be investigated.
