American far-right activist Laura Loomer criticized the appointment of Sriram Krishnan, an Indian-origin entrepreneur who was named Donald Trump’s AI advisor.
Loomer posted on X this afternoon claiming Krishnan’s views on immigration are opposite to Trump’s. She claimed Krishnan wants to remove caps on green cards and that such a move would allow foreign students to take jobs meant for Americans.
Loomer, known for her far-right views, resurfaced Krishnan’s old tweet about removing the country cap on green cards.
“It’s alarming to see the number of career leftists who are now being appointed to serve in Trump’s admin when they share views that are in direct opposition to Trump’s America First agenda," she said.
However, a large group on the platform pointed out that Krishnan was simply advocating for the removal of the country caps.
Country caps refer to limits on the number of green cards (permanent residency visas) that can be issued to people from any single country in a given year. For example, under US immigration law, no more than 7% of the total green cards issued each year can go to individuals from one country.
Several people in the comments section corrected Loomer for presenting a biased view of Krishnan’s tweet. Among those who criticized her were Elon Musk and David Sacks.
South African-American entrepreneur David Sacks explained that Sriram Krishnan supports removing country-specific caps on green cards to address long wait times for applicants from countries like India.
“Right now, every country in the world gets allocated the same number of green cards, no matter how many qualified applicants it has. So applicants from India have an 11 year wait whereas applicants from many other countries have no wait at all," he wrote. “Sriram still supports skills-based criteria for receiving a green card, not making the program unlimited," Sacks added.
Elon Musk responded to Sacks, agreeing that his explanation made sense.
