Los Angeles Wildfires: Firefighters in Los Angeles are battling two massive blazes as the Weather Service pushed back its dire warning of critical fire weather which came as a much-needed reprieve. Although danger is not abated as forecasters said the winds were below danger levels but were expected to strengthen with potentially fire-fueling gusts. Red flag warnings remained in effect from Central California to the Mexican border as officials said that danger was not over owing to an increase in winds. Here are the latest updates on Los Angeles wildfires:

1. The Weather Service in Los Angeles said in a post on social media, “Key message: We are not out of the woods yet. The winds underperformed today, but one more enhancement could happen tonight-tomorrow." Santa Ana winds may carry fire-sparking embers for miles and stoke new outbreaks, officials warned.

2. More progress has been made on the Palisades fire- the largest blaze- as CalFire Operations Section Chief Christian Litz said there were no active flames, though it was far from over.

3. Nearly 90,000 households lost electricity as utilities shut off power to prevent their lines from sparking new blazes. Police announced roughly 50 arrests, for looting, flying drones in fire zones and violating curfew.

4. The weather agency said that winds, combined with severely dry conditions, have created a “ Particularly Dangerous Situation" which means that any new fire could explode in size.

5. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass expressed confidence that the region is ready to face the new threat as she described the aftermath of wildfires as something resembling a “dry hurricane."

6. LA County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone said that winds were not expected to reach the same fierce speeds seen last week but could ground firefighting aircraft.

7. The four largest fires have scorched more than 63 square miles (163 square kilometers). Of these, the Eaton Fire near Pasadena was roughly one-third contained, while the largest blaze, in Pacific Palisades, was far less contained.

8. Death toll is likely to rise, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna and nearly 30 people are still missing. Just under 90,000 people in the county remained under evacuation orders.
