NATO’s Rutte meet Donald Trump
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte never fails to flatter US President Donald Trump and today during their meeting at the White House, Rutte called America “the police agent of the whole world." This comes shortly after Rutte referred to Donald Trump as “Daddy," during a NATO summit in The Hague. In today’s meeting Trump called 58-year-old Rutte “a pretty young guy" and said “We are very unhappy — well, I am — with Russia."
Trump also said that Ukraine is not his war, it is Biden’s war. Upon discussion over Russia-Ukraine situation, Trump and Rutte announced European countries will buy advanced U.S. weapons, including air defense systems, to send to Ukraine.
Trump goes on to complain about Russian President Vladimir Putin and said even after showing a desire to reach a peace agreement, Russia keeps launching attacks in Ukraine. “I speak to [Putin] a lot about getting this thing done. And I always say, ‘Well, that was a nice phone call.’ And then missiles are launched into Kyiv or some other city," Trump said.
He further threatened Russia with steep tariffs. Trump said he would implement “severe tariffs" unless a peace deal is reached within 50 days. Describing them as secondary tariffs, Trump provided few details on how they would be implemented.
Russia bombarded Ukrainian cities, including the capital, Kyiv, with hundreds of drones and cruise and ballistic missiles that Ukraine’s air defenses are struggling to counter. June brought the highest monthly civilian casualties of the past three years, with 232 people killed and 1,343 wounded, the U.N. human rights mission in Ukraine was cited by an AP report.
As per the report, Trump confirmed the US is sending Ukraine more Patriot air defense missiles and that the European Union will pay the US for the “various pieces of very sophisticated" weaponry.
