A Florida woman was found guilty of second degree murder after she left her boyfriend to die -- zipped into a suitcase -- at their home four years ago.

The woman, Sarah Boone, was arrested for the death of Jorge Torres, and was convicted by the jurors on October 25, news agency The Associated Press reported. She had pleaded not guilty to the crime.

Boone had initially told detectives from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office that she and Torres were playing hide-and-seek on February 23, 2020, in their house in Winter Park in Florida, and they thought that it would be "funny" for Torres to get into the suitcase.

According to an arrest report, Boone stated that both of them had been drinking, and she thought that her boyfriend could get out of the suitcase on his own and went off to sleep.

When she woke up the next morning, she couldn't find Torres but then remembered he was in the suitcase. When she opened the suitcase, he was unresponsive.

However, Boone was charged with murder after several videos were discovered on her phone which showed Torres shouting from inside the suitcase that he couldn't breathe. He also continuously kept on calling Boone's name, the report stated.

During her trial, Boone said that violent incidents transpired between her and Torres in the past, and she acted in "self-defence" by keeping him in the suitcase.

“Yeah that’s what you do when you choke me,” Boone could be heard saying in one of the videos on her phone, according to the AP report. “Oh, that’s what I feel like when you cheat on me," she can be heard saying in the video.

An autopsy report stated that Torres had scratches on his back and neck and contusions to his shoulder, skull and forehead from blunt force trauma, as well as a cut near his busted lip.

Boone had gone through several attorneys since her arrest, which delayed her trial, lasting 10 days. Boone will be sentenced on December 2 and faces up to life in prison.
