Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday said the government must “find and eradicate" the remaining terrorists involved in the April 22 Pahalgam attack.
Speaking during the debate on Operation Sindoor in the Rajya Sabha, Kharge also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his silence on US President Donald Trump’s repeated claims that he brokered a ceasefire between India and Pakistan during the operation.
Kharge questioned why the ceasefire announcement came from Washington and not from India. “Ceasefire was not announced by our Prime Minister or Defence Minister, it came from Washington," he said, referring to Trump’s statement.
He also raised doubts over Trump’s claim that five Indian fighter jets were shot down during the military exchange in May, demanding a clear response from the Prime Minister. “If no Indian fighter jet has been downed, PM Modi should tell, country wants to know it," Kharge said.
Kharge further asked the government to explain the terms of the ceasefire. “The government must spell out the conditions under which the ceasefire was agreed upon. Did the US play a role in it?" he asked.
The Congress President also questioned PM Modi’s silence over the remarks made by BJP MPs and ministers that, according to Kharge, insult the Indian armed forces.
“Why does the Prime Minister remain silent when BJP MPs, ministers insult our armed forces?" he said.
