Ground Report: Here's how currency is exchanged at Lebanon-Syria border

Unlike in other countries, people from both Lebanon and Syria can easily exchange currency near the border informally. People crossing over to the other side of the border can exchange currency from civilians at the market exchange rate.

As Israel continues its attack in Lebanon, several people crossed the border to Syria to look for safer pastures. Lebanese people can easily cross the border to enter Syria as they don't require any documentation and vice versa.

While crossing the border, they have to exchange their Lebanese pound for the Syrian pound. But unlike in other countries, people from both Lebanon and Syria can easily exchange the currency near the border informally.

India Today TV's Ashraf Wani, the only Indian reporter on the ground in Lebanon reported that several civilians sat on both sides of the border, sitting with wards of both the Lebanese and the Syrian pound.

People crossing over to the other side can exchange the currency at the market exchange rate. Notably, 1 Syrian Pound is equivalent to 35.63 Libyan Pound.

At least 105 people were killed in Lebanon in the Israeli airstrikes on Sunday, The Associated Press reported. Two strikes near the southern city of Sidon killed at least 32 people, the Lebanese health ministry said.

Israeli strikes in the northern province of Baalbek Hermel killed 21 people and injured at least 47 people.
