Mumbai attacks alleged mastermind Hafiz Saeed’s brother-in-law and banned Jamaat-ud-Dawa deputy chief Hafiz Abdul Rahman Makki died in Lahore on Friday after a prolonged illness.
Makki was also head of foreign and political affairs of Jamaat-ud-Dawa. He was allegedly involved in the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
In 2023, Makki was designated as a global terrorist by the United Nations, and the United States had set a bounty of $2 million on his head.
Makki was handed six months imprisonment for terror financing in 2020 by an anti-terrorism court in Pakistan.
He had a PhD degree from Umm Al-Qura University in Mecca.
Makki was very close to Hafiz Saeed, and his main job till 2017 was to recruit young boys from south Punjab for terror camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Later, he was forced to restrict all his activities to Peshawar, where he created a large force of almost 3 lakhs.
According to sources, he was running the main Markaz in Islamabad and was seen there regularly delivering sermons.
