Hamas’ armed wing has announced that it would hand over the remains of two more hostages on Thursday, as part of the US-brokered ceasefire deal in Gaza, as Israeli strikes in the enclave killed more than 100 people, threatening the fragile truce.

Hamas have so far given back the remains of 15 of the 28 dead hostages they had agreed to return as part of the deal. The Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades “will hand over the bodies of two Israeli prisoners at 4:00 pm Gaza time (1400 GMT)", the group said on its Telegram channel.

This came after Israel launched a wave of strikes on Gaza on Tuesday night after an attack claimed the life of an Israeli soldier in southern Gaza. However, Hamas has denied responsibility for the attack and reaffirmed its commitment to the truce.

Israeli strikes on Tuesday killed at least 104 Palestinians, including children, after which Israel said it would adhere to the ceasefire again. However, Israel carried out another strike in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, killing at least two people, casting doubt on its willingness to comply with the truce deal. Despite Israel’s claims of adhering to the ceasefire, fresh strikes were reported in eastern Gaza on Thursday.

Gaza Truce In Danger

The strikes shattered the short-lived relief for Palestinians, who were holding funerals for the victims of the latest strikes at hospitals across Gaza on Wednesday. “These are massacres. They burned children while they were asleep," Haneen Mteir, who lost her sister and nephews in the strikes, told The Associated Press.

Hamas said the strikes “revealed Israel’s intention to undermine the ceasefire and impose new realities by force." It said it would continue to adhere to the agreement in a statement issued on Wednesday.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump backed Israeli attack, saying they have the full right to respond to any violations and added that if Hamas does not “behave", it will be “eradicated".

Prior to this, Hamas drew outrage in Israel on Monday after it returned the partial remains of a previously recovered captive, which Israel said was a breach of the truce. Hamas said the remains were the 16th body it had agreed to return, but Israeli forensic examination determined they were, in fact, partial remains of a hostage whose body had already been brought back to Israel around two years ago.
