Donald Trump cited his administration's crackdown on crime in DC as reason for his decision to dine out

Trump has eschewed the capital’s restaurant scene since returning to Washington, choosing instead to dine at the White House or occasionally at his nearby golf club in Sterling, Virginia

US President on Tuesday evening was greeted by both his followers and protesters chanting “Free DC and “Free Palestine" while dining at an outside eatery for the first time since taking office in January.

According to CNN, Trump has eschewed the capital’s restaurant scene since returning to Washington, choosing instead to dine at the White House or occasionally at his nearby golf club in Sterling, Virginia.

On Tuesday evening, he along with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Vice President JD Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth dined at Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab, near the White House.

As Trump sat to dine, he was approached by some people chanting “Free DC" and “Free Palestine". CNN cited a video in which the protesters could be heard saying “Free DC, free Palestine, Trump is the Hitler of our time". They were booed by others dining at the restaurant and removed from the venue.

Meanwhile, the President was also applauded by some diners. In response, he said: “We have a safe city, so that’s good. Enjoy yourself. You won’t be mugged going home."

Later, Trump told reporters that his administration’s crackdown on crime in DC was one of the key reasons for his decision to dine out.

“I wouldn’t have done this three months ago, four months ago, I certainly wouldn’t have done it a year ago," Trump said. “This was one of the most unsafe cities in the country. Now it’s as safe as there is in the country, so we’re here with Cabinet members having dinner, and everybody should go out."

The President further said that an operation would soon be announced in another city soon. “We’ll be announcing another city that we’re going to very shortly — we’re working it out. The governor of a certain state would love us to be there, and the mayor of a certain city in that same state would love us to be there. We’ll announce it probably tomorrow, and it’s going to be something where we’ll do like we did here," he added
