On Friday, as a discussion on the functioning of the ministry of home affairs was held in Rajya Sabha, an interesting lunch meeting was happening in Parliament.

Many sitting in the Rajya Sabha canteen were taken by surprise as union home minister Amit Shah, BJP national president JP Nadda, union ministers Piyush Goyal and Ravneet Singh Bittu, and a couple of other BJP MPs, including Surendra Nagar from the upper house, joined in at the lunch table.

Those who know the home minister are aware that he sits for long hours in Parliament and generally sticks to eating home food. But Friday was different.

“We could see him enjoying lunch with his party colleagues but was extremely courteous when many others came to say namaste to him, including Congress leader Jairam Ramesh," a witness told CNN-News18.

While the food on the table included varieties like dosa, poori-chole, and aloo puri, the food for thought was poll-bound Bihar and other pressing issues.

“There was a lot of laughter and chatting on the table, and it seems that there was no serious discussion that was happening, except for friends having lunch together," the witness added.

While the home minister was happy with the quality of food served in the canteen, he could also be heard saying that it was priced reasonably. Like any other table of friends, there was a good-humoured fight among those sitting there on who would pay the bill. Finally, it turned out to be Piyush Goyal’s treat.

The lunch table stayed occupied for an hour, and proceedings ended with the sipping of some black coffee and, on a sweeter note, eating ragi laddus.
