Huawei has officially stepped into the foldable laptop space, joining major players like Lenovo, HP and Asus, with the launch of its very first foldable notebook—the MateBook Fold Ultimate. It features a giant 18-inch OLED display and is the first non-Windows OS foldable notebook from the brand in the market.

Huawei MateBook Fold Ultimate: Display and Form Factor
Even with its expansive 18-inch panel, Huawei claims the MateBook Fold Ultimate remains sleek and portable. The foldable notebook weighs just 1.16kg, and it folds down to compact 14.9mm and unfolds to mere 7.3mm thanks to a smart build that incorporates a three-layer aluminum alloy frame and an ultra-slim PCB.
The foldable design supports multiple use modes. Open it halfway to use it like a conventional laptop with a virtual keyboard, or fully expand it into a large touchscreen that can be used in either portrait or landscape orientation. A built-in kickstand adds to its versatility, making it ideal for watching videos or performing productivity tasks.
The OLED LTPO display is a major highlight. When unfolded, it delivers a 4:3 aspect ratio at a crisp 3296 x 2472 resolution. In laptop mode, it switches to a 3:2 aspect ratio with a 2472 x 1648 resolution.
The screen also offers 1600 nits peak brightness, 1440Hz PWM dimming for eye protection and is reinforced with a non-Newtonian fluid coating and carbon fibre layer for extra durability. Huawei claims the panel consumes 30 percent less energy and has three times the lifespan of typical OLED screens.
Under the hood, the MateBook Fold Ultimate is equipped with 32GB RAM and comes in 1TB and 2TB SSD options. Huawei has not disclosed processor under the hood but talked about the advanced cooling system that includes a vapour chamber and dual slim fans for effective heat management. It runs on the HarmonyOS which borrows some elements and design from Windows but is fully made in-house by Huawei.
The laptop houses a 74.69Wh battery and comes with two USB-C ports, six speakers and four microphones, making it well-suited for entertainment, meetings, and multitasking. Each unit comes bundled with a wireless keyboard, carry cases, a 140W USB-C fast charger and a charging cable out of the box.
