Hunter Biden says Joe Biden's cancer has spread, causing severe pain

Former US President Joe Biden's prostate cancer has spread to other parts of his body and is causing him pain, his son Hunter Biden said in an interview with the BBC broadcast late Friday. Hunter Biden said the illness had become very difficult for the family to watch, even as his father continues to speak publicly on issues he cares about.

Joe Biden, 83, revealed his cancer diagnosis in May last year, less than four months after leaving the White House. His age had been a source of concern through much of his presidency, and he and his White House advisers have faced sharp criticism over claims that they concealed the extent of his health problems, especially after he was forced to drop his re-election bid following a disastrous debate with his eventual successor, Donald Trump.

In the wide-ranging interview, Hunter Biden grew emotional as he spoke about his father's condition. "The cancer has spread, metastasized into his bones and further," he said. "It's very painful and it's very debilitating in many respects." He added, "It's really sad to watch. The only thing that I'd say about my dad, about his health right now, is I wish he would complain more, because it's not good."

At the same time, Hunter Biden said his father remains active in public life. "He's still doing his thing," he said. "He so believes in this country." He also said Joe Biden would publish a memoir, Promise Me, America, after the mid-term elections. The interview offered a personal account of the former president's illness, the pain it is causing him and his continued public engagement.
