United States President Donald Trump on Thursday said he would try to attend the wedding ceremony of his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr, but conceded that the timing was difficult amid the ongoing Iran war and the wider crisis in the Middle East.

Donald Trump Jr., popularly known as Don Jr, is set to marry his finance socialite Bettina Anderson on a small island in the Bahamas this weekend in what the President described as a private ceremony attended by close family members and friends.

Speaking to reporters at the Oval Office, Donald Trump said, "He'd like me to go. It's going to be just a small little private affair and I'm going to try and make it. This is not good timing for me. I have a thing called Iran and other things".

Furthermore, the President joked about the political and media attention surrounding his possible attendance at the wedding as the Iran conflict continues unresolved.

"That's one I can't win on. If I do attend, I get killed. If I don't attend, I get killed -- by the fake news, of course. Hopefully they're going to have a great marriage," he said.

According to CNN, Trump Jr and Anderson wanted to keep details of the wedding under wraps to ensure the ceremony remained private and away from media attention. The couple reportedly want to keep the event private over security concerns and to spare guests the inconvenience of attending a heavily guarded function if the US President is present.

The weekend ceremony marked Trump Jr's second marriage. The 48-year-old was earlier married to Vanessa Trump for 12 years before the couple divorced in 2018. They have five children. Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Venessa Trump announced that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Don Jr is the executive vice president of The Trump Organization, the Trump family's real estate empire, and remains one of the most outspoken backers of his father's MAGA-driven political movement.

Last year, Don Jr had said that he may consider entering the presidential race 'someday'. President Donald Trump's second term is set to run until January 2029, and he has so far not publicly indicated who could carry forward his political legacy.
