An Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer on Wednesday shot and killed a Minneapolis driver on Wednesday during the Trump administration’s latest immigration crackdown, the federal officials said.

The 37-year-old woman, identified as Renee Nicole Good, was shot in the head in front of a family member in a snowy residential neighborhood south of downtown Minneapolis, about a mile (1.6 kilometers) away from where George Floyd was killed by the police in 2020.

The killing was recorded by witnesses and was quickly condemned by a large crowd of hundreds of angry protesters.

Thousands of demonstrators are gathering for a vigil where the deadly shooting happened. People are yelling and demanding ICE to leave Minneapolis.

“Shame! Shame! Shame!" and “ICE out of Minnesota!" can be heard as the protesters were sloganeering against the ICE.

Meanwhile, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem described the incident as an “act of domestic terrorism" carried out against ICE officers by a woman who “attempted to run them over and rammed them with her vehicle. An officer of ours acted quickly and defensively, shot, to protect himself and the people around him."

Trump Says Officer ‘Seems To Have Shot In Self-Defence’

Following the incident, US President Donald Trump on Wednesday (local time) defended the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer after a woman was shot dead in Minneapolis while the federal agency was carrying out one of their “targeted operations".

The US president said that the woman ‘violently, willfully, and viciously’ ran over the ICE Officer, who seems to have shot her in self-defence.

Trump further added that the situation is being studied in its entirety and blamed the “radical left" for assaulting and targeting American law enforcement officers.

In a post on Truth Social, the US President said, “I have just viewed the clip of the event which took place in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is a horrible thing to watch. The woman screaming was, obviously, a professional agitator, and the woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting, who then violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer, who seems to have shot her in self-defense."
