Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday took a sharp dig at the Congress, accusing it of appeasement politics and challenging the party to appoint a Muslim leader as its president.
He further slammed the grand-old party for opposing the amended Waqf Act, saying that the Congress has always appeased Muslim fundamentalists and their protest against the new law proves the same.
“If you have so much sympathy for Muslims, then why not make a Muslim the party president? Give 50 per cent of the seats to Muslims in the elections," said PM Modi.
The remarks came as PM Modi addressed a public meeting in Haryana’s Hisar after paying tributes to Dr BR Ambedkar on his 135th birth anniversary.
“Congress has only pleased some fundamentalists. The rest of the society remained miserable, uneducated, and poor. The biggest proof of this evil policy of Congress is their opposition to the amended Waqf Act," PM Modi remarked.
