A PIMS medical team examined jailed former prime minister Imran Khan at Adiala Jail. The check-up has sharpened scrutiny of his treatment in custody as PTI presses for his transfer.

Pakistan's jailed former prime minister Imran Khan underwent a medical check-up amid concerns over his health, according to a media report on Saturday.
Khan, 73, has been in jail since 2023, when he was arrested after being convicted in a corruption case. He is currently lodged in the high-security Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. His supporters have alleged that his health has worsened because of a lack of proper medical care, a charge rejected by jail authorities.
Geo News, quoting sources, reported that a special team from the state-run Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences conducted Khan's medical examination. He underwent a comprehensive check-up, including tests related to blood pressure, cholesterol and his eyes.
The report said a PIMS doctor led the team, while medical staff from the Adiala jail hospital also assisted during the examination. Khan has complained of an eye ailment and has been shifted to PIMS several times for medical intervention.
The Supreme Court had ordered on August 18 that he be shifted to a private hospital for treatment, but he was taken to PIMS instead and returned to jail after undergoing various medical tests there. Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party has sought his transfer to the private Shifa Hospital in Islamabad for a full medical examination and treatment, while also raising concerns about his health. The party has also planned a protest on September 27 to press the government for his release.
Since his removal from office in April 2022 through a no-confidence vote, Khan has faced multiple legal cases, and his health and treatment in custody have remained a matter of political attention.
