Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan
After weeks of restricted access, former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan’s sister Uzma Khan was allowed to meet him at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on Tuesday.
Breaking a prolonged deadlock that had fuelled protests by PTI supporters and family members, the meeting between Imran Khan and his sister lasted 25-35 minutes, sources told CNN-News18.
Sources close to Uzma Khan told reporters that Imran Khan appeared “fine, fit, and in high spirits."
She said the former prime minister remained mentally strong and conveyed a message for his party leadership as well as for what he called an “undemocratic regime."
According to these sources, Imran Khan also alleged that Pakistan’s army chief, General Asim Munir, was responsible for the “mental torture" he claims to be undergoing in prison.
Uzma Khan, speaking after the meeting, said Imran was angry about certain issues related to jail administration, though she reaffirmed that his “morale remained high".
Uzma’s visit came as PTI staged demonstrations outside both the Islamabad High Court and Adiala Jail, denouncing what they described as unlawful curbs on Imran Khan’s visitation rights.
The party and the family had repeatedly complained that despite a court order allowing twice-weekly meetings, access had been blocked for several weeks.
Her visit also followed a period of heightened tension, including a contempt petition filed by Imran’s sister Aleema Khan against Adiala Jail officials for allegedly defying court directions that mandated family and legal access.
PTI has accused authorities of repeatedly blocking meetings with relatives, lawyers and party leaders since March, allegations prison officials deny, insisting Imran Khan is being kept in good health.
The standoff intensified further when Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Sohail Afridi was barred for the eighth time from meeting the PTI founder, leading him to stage a sit-in outside the jail.
