Aleema Khan was arrested from her Lahore home days before PTI's September 27 protest march. The detention adds to pressure on Imran Khan's family and the party before the planned Justice March.
Pakistan police arrested Aleema Khan, the sister of jailed former prime minister Imran Khan, at her residence in Lahore on Sunday, days before his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party's planned protest march on September 27.
The arrest was confirmed by a PTI Punjab spokesman, who said Aleema Khan was taken into custody from her house in Lahore, Reuters reported.
The development comes ahead of the PTI's planned September 27 march, which the party has been preparing as part of its campaign around Imran Khan's imprisonment and demands for his release. PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan has called the September 27 mobilisation a "Justice March".
ARREST AHEAD OF SEPTEMBER 27 MARCH
Aleema Khan's arrest comes as authorities step up preparations ahead of the PTI's planned protest.
Four PTI activists and workers had also been taken into custody in Islamabad ahead of the September 27 protest, according to Dawn. Police said those arrests were linked to a meeting allegedly being held to organise the demonstration.
The PTI has continued to push for the September 27 march despite efforts to dissuade the party from holding the protest. The party has said the mobilisation is linked to demands surrounding Imran Khan and the country's judicial system.
IMRAN KHAN HAS BEEN IN JAIL FOR MORE THAN THREE YEARS
Imran Khan, the World Cup-winning former Pakistan cricket captain and former prime minister, has been imprisoned for more than three years.
His family, including his two sons, have repeatedly raised concerns about his health. They have also alleged a conspiracy involving Pakistan's de facto leader and military chief Asim Munir.
The latest arrest adds to the pressure surrounding Imran Khan's family and the PTI ahead of the party's planned September 27 mobilisation.
The circumstances and specific grounds for Aleema Khan's arrest were not immediately provided by police in the information available from the PTI spokesman and Reuters.
