The India-US free trade agreement (FTA) will see exports of more American farm products to the Indian markets, US Secretary for Agriculture Brooke Rollins said on Tuesday, February 3.

"New US-India deal will export more American farm products to India's massive market, lifting prices, and pumping cash into rural America," Rollins said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

She said that in 2024, America’s agricultural trade deficit with India was $1.3 billion.

"India’s growing population is an important market for American agricultural products and today’s deal will go a long way to reducing this deficit," she added, dubbing it as an "America First" victory.

Thank you @POTUS for ONCE AGAIN delivering for our American farmers.

However, the details of the India-US FTA are not officially released as of yet.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump on Monday, February 2, announced the finalisation of the India-US FTA which would see 18% tariffs on Indian goods.

Rollin's remarks, however, hold importance as India has been firm in its stance to protect its agriculture and dairy sectors in trade discussions and deals with any country.
