BBC presenter Naga Munchetty, known for her role on BBC Breakfast, has been accused of inappropriate off-air behaviour and workplace bullying, as reported by The Sun.
The 50-year-old broadcaster allegedly came under internal scrutiny in two separate incidents over the past three years.
In one case dating back to 2022, Munchetty reportedly used a “crude slang term for a sex act" while off-air during her stint on Radio 5 Live. According to sources cited by The Sun, the remark was directed at a fellow colleague and was viewed as unprofessional.
“It was crass, inappropriate and wildly unprofessional," one insider claimed. “The colleague at the receiving end felt embarrassed."
Another incident, said to have occurred last year during Munchetty’s time on BBC Breakfast, involved accusations that she wrongly accused a junior female staff member of theft. The claim was reportedly made in front of other colleagues, and no evidence was presented to support the allegation.
“It was humiliating. There was no evidence, no apology. The woman left not long after, completely demoralised," a source told The Sun. A separate insider added, “That wasn’t an isolated incident. It really is the tip of the iceberg."
These accusations emerge amid growing concerns about the internal work environment at BBC Breakfast.
BBC Breakfast Editor On Extended Leave
Editor Richard Frediani is currently on extended leave while an investigation looks into claims of bullying and misconduct involving him.
Reports suggest he may have physically confronted a junior editor and displayed aggressive behaviour in the newsroom. The BBC has brought in external auditors PwC to conduct a review into the show’s workplace culture.
Responding to the matter, a BBC spokesperson said, “While we do not comment on individual cases, we take all complaints about conduct at work extremely seriously and will not tolerate behaviour that is not in line with our values." The statement continued, “We have robust processes in place and would encourage any staff with concerns to raise them directly with us so they can be addressed."
As of now, Munchetty has not commented publicly on the claims, and there has been no formal announcement of disciplinary action.
