A video from Toronto has surfaced showing a man, reportedly drunk, attacking another man of Indian origin at a McDonald’s restaurant. The footage, captured by bystanders, shows the attacker physically assaulting the victim while shouting racial remarks.
In the video, the man, wearing a Toronto Blue Jays jacket, approaches the victim near the ‘Mobile Order Pick Up’ counter without provocation. He initially shoves the man, causing his phone to fall to the floor. When the victim calmly picks up his phone, the attacker grabs him by the collar, pushing him against the wall. During the assault, the attacker can be heard shouting, “Why acting superior?"
The victim does not retaliate but repeatedly says, “Let me go," while being held by his jacket collar. The confrontation continues till a McDonald’s staff member intervenes, urging the attacker to release the man and escorting him out of the restaurant. Even while being removed, the aggressor continued to accuse the victim of arrogance.
Police have not yet released any statement about the incident, and the identities of both men have not been confirmed.
This attack comes amid growing concerns over racism and xenophobia in Canada. Social media users have condemned the violence, noting that incidents targeting people of Indian origin appear to be rising.
The video follows another incident in Ontario, which occurred in less than a week, where a young white man verbally abused an Indian female employee at a McDonald’s outlet. In that case, the man repeatedly told the woman to “go back to her own country," using offensive language. When she filmed him and challenged his behaviour, he continued shouting insults with a smile, showing no remorse for his actions.
Both videos have reignited discussions about anti-Indian sentiment in Canada and have sparked outrage online.
