As Donald Trump beats his chest about effecting a regime change in Tehran, Iranians are having a laugh as heads reportedly roll in Washington, DC. Following reports that US Army Chief of Staff General Randy George was dismissed on Thursday by US War Secretary Pete Hegseth amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia, Iran took to X to mock the US President, writing, “The regime change happened successfully.”
Iran's embassy in South Africa shared images of a recent meeting of the US military leadership, ticking off certain figures, although these did not exactly correspond to the reported dismissals. The caption read: “The regime change happened successfully,” accompanied by Trump’s slogan “MAGA” and a laughing emoji.
The Pentagon confirmed that General Randy George, who had over a year remaining in his term, “will be retiring from his position as the 41st Chief of Staff of the Army effective immediately.”
General Randy George’s removal is part of wider leadership changes within the Pentagon, which include the firing last year of the previous chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Air Force General CQ Brown, as well as the chief of naval operations and the air force vice-chief.
The Department of War did not provide a reason for General George’s departure. The US Army, the largest military branch with approximately 450,000 active-duty soldiers, has mainly deployed troops for air defence systems in the Middle East.
Meanwhile, the navy and air force have conducted most strikes in the region. Recently, thousands of soldiers from the Army's elite 82nd Airborne Division began arriving in the area, possibly preparing for ground operations in Iran.

In a statement, the Pentagon's Joint Staff expressed gratitude for General George's service: “Since 1988, General George and his family have consistently answered the nation’s call with honour and dedication.”
