Iran Protests News Today Live Updates: Iran has been witnessing its deadliest wave of unrest for the past two weeks, with over 500 people killed. With no immediate relief in sight, tensions have further escalated as US President Donald Trump has renewed warnings of possible US intervention in support of protesters. In response, Tehran has threatened retaliation against American military assets in the region.

US-based rights group HRANA, citing activists inside and outside Iran, said it had confirmed the deaths of 490 protesters and 48 members of the security forces, with over 10,600 people detained during nearly two weeks of demonstrations, Reuters reported. Iranian authorities have not released official casualty figures yet.

The protests, which began on December 28 over rising prices, have since evolved into the largest challenge to Iran’s clerical leadership since 2022. Trump has repeatedly warned that Washington could act if Iranian forces intensify their crackdown.

A US official said Trump was expected to meet senior advisers on Tuesday to review options, following a Wall Street Journal report that these range from military action and cyber operations to tougher sanctions and online support for opposition groups. “The military is looking at it, and we’re looking at some very strong options,” Trump said. Iran Protests News Today Live: When Did US Attack Iran In Past?

The United States has previously carried out military strikes on Iranian territory. In June, US forces dropped at least six bunker-buster bombs on three sites, including the Fordow nuclear enrichment facility. The Fordow site is located deep underground, nearly 300 feet beneath a mountain. The strikes followed threats from Iran to use its nuclear capabilities against Israel during their 12-day conflict. Those earlier US strikes were coordinated with Israeli attacks on Iran’s military infrastructure. The operations were carried out amid heightened tensions in the region and warnings from Washington against further escalation by Tehran.
