Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian was reportedly the target of an Israeli assassination attempt during a strike on the Islamic Republic’s judiciary on June 15, when the two countries were engaged in a deadly war, according to a report.

Israel reportedly tried to assassinate Pezeshkian, Iran’s parliament speaker and the head of the judiciary during a strike on a meeting of Iran’s Supreme Security Council in Tehran, according to a report by the Islamic Guard Revolutionary Corps (IRGC)-affiliated Fars News agency.

Pezeshkian was lightly wounded in the leg when Israel used several missiles or bombs to block the exits to the building where the meeting was being held. However, all three officials managed to escape through an emergency hatch, according to the report.

Pezeshkian was injured while escaping the building, and an investigation was underway to discover whether a mole had given information on the meeting to Israel. The assassination attempt was reportedly designed on the basis of the strike that killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut last year.
