Israeli security forces are preparing a list of Palestinian prisoners who could be freed in exchange for hostages in Hamas captivity as part of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan, CNN-News18 has learnt, after Hamas agreed to key elements of the peace proposal.

Israel’s negotiating team has been ordered to prepare to dispatch a delegation to hold talks for implementing Trump’s Gaza peace plan. These talks are most likely to be held in Egypt.

This came after Israel signalled its readiness to implement Trump’s plan to end nearly two years of war in Gaza by reducing its operations in the Palestinian enclave. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel would work “in full cooperation" with Trump to end the war in accordance with its principles.

However, Israel said its troops were still operating in Gaza and warned residents not to return, despite calls from the families of Israeli hostages and US President Donald Trump for an immediate halt to the fighting. Dozens of attacks on Gaza City were reported despite Trump’s call, with at least six deaths.

Hamas Agrees To Release Hostages

In a major breakthrough in months-long efforts to halt the war, which has led to staggering destruction in the Gaza Strip, Hamas on Friday said it was ready to release all hostages and start talks on the details of his plan to end the nearly two-year war.

Hamas also reaffirmed its approval to hand over the administration of the Gaza Strip to a Palestinian body of independents (technocrats), based on Palestinian national consensus and supported by Arab and Islamic backing.

“Within this framework, and in a manner that achieves an end to the war and a full withdrawal from the Strip, the movement announces its approval of releasing all occupation prisoners–both living and remains-according to the exchange formula contained in President Trump’s proposal, with the necessary field conditions for implementing the exchange," the group said in its statement.

Trump Calls On Israel To Stop Bombing

Welcoming the Hamas statement, Trump said, “Based on the Statement just issued by Hamas, I believe they are ready for a lasting PEACE. Israel must immediately stop the bombing of Gaza, so that we can get the Hostages out safely and quickly!"

Trump’s proposal said that after 72 hours of accepting his peace deal, Israel will free 250 Palestinian prisoners serving life sentences, plus 1,700 Gazans arrested since October 7, 2023, including all women and children.

However, several core demands including full disarmament, a foreign-led transitional authority, and strict timelines remain unaddressed. Hamas said issues concerning the future of Gaza and the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people need to be discussed “within a comprehensive Palestinian national framework".
