US Vice President JD Vance in Jaipur Live Updates: US Vice President JD Vance arrived in Jaipur late Monday evening, on the first day of his visit to India, after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital.
Vance arrived in Delhi’s Palam Airport yesterday with his wife, Usha Chilukuri Vance, and their children – Vivek, Ewan and Mirabel – to kick-start a four-day official visit to India, during which he would have various engagements. His trip includes stops in Delhi, Jaipur, and Agra.
On the second day, he visited Amber Fort with his wife Usha, and his three children. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma welcomed him at the Fort and held a courtesy meeting with the US Vice President.
While addressing an event in Jaipur, Vance said he was amazed by India’s history and culture, adding that the future of the 21st century will be decided by the strength of the India-US partnership.
“I believe that our nations have much to offer to one another, and that’s why we come to you as partners, looking to strengthen our relationship. We’re not here to preach that you do things any one particular way. Too often in the past, Washington approached Prime Minister Modi with an attitude of preaching,” said the US Vice President.
Vance called PM Modi a “tough negotiator” and said America wanted trade with all partners on the basis of fairness and shared national interests. He also confirmed that the US and India have finalised the terms of reference for a bilateral trade deal. “It sets a road map toward a final deal between our nations,” he added.
