US Vice President JD Vance announced on X that he would accompany his wife, Usha Vance, on her trip to Greenland this Friday.

In a video message, Vance said that he didn't want his wife to "have all the fun by herself" after she received positive responses for her visit. He also underscored Greenland’s strategic importance for global security.

The vice president asserted Greenland was a significant territory for global security. President Donald Trump has pledged to integrate the territory into the US—a move strongly opposed by Danish lawmakers, who retain control over the island.

JD Vance made it clear that it was important to protect Greenland for global security. He said, “Speaking for President Trump, we want to reinvigorate the security of the people of Greenland because we think it’s important to protecting the security of the entire world.”

The vice president also warned that other nations were seeking to use Greenland as a potential threat to the US and Canada.

During the trip, Vance and the second lady will visit the Pituffik Space Base, replacing earlier plan to visit the Avannaata Qimussersu dogsled race in Sisimiut for Usha Vance.

Trump's national security advisory, Mike Waltz was removed from the list of US officials going to Greenland after Vance's announcement. The White House has not yet commented on the reason for his removal. Waltz is under scanner for allegedly adding a journalist to a Signal group chat that included high-ranking Trump administration officials, including Vance, to discuss US strikes on Yemen.

During his first term, Trump floated the idea of purchasing the world’s largest island, even as Denmark, a NATO ally, insisted it wasn’t for sale. The people of Greenland also have firmly rejected Trump’s plans.
