Jon Voight has called on President Donald Trump to intervene in New York City's mayoral election following Zohran Mamdani's victory. The actor, who lives primarily in Beverly Hills, went on to frame Mamdani's leadership as a direct threat to private property and business interests.

American actor Jon Voight has urged President Donald Trump to intervene in New York City’s mayoral election after Zohran Mamdani’s victory, calling for the result to be "terminated". Voight, 86, made the appeal in a two-minute video posted on social media, where he stood before an American flag and claimed the incoming mayor posed a threat to the city.
Voight currently holds the symbolic post of special ambassador to Hollywood, a title created by Trump at the beginning of his second term. He used the video to argue that Trump alone had the power to reverse the election result, despite there being no legal mechanism for a US president to remove a mayor.
"We the people have put our trust in the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump. He, and only he, can stop this horror, as this mayor, Mamdani, will try to destroy New York’s wealth and turn it into a socialist crap city," Voight said. "Let this be a warning to the people and may God bless."
LANGUAGE TARGETING MAMDANI
Voight’s message relied heavily on Islamophobic themes. He claimed New York would "turn into a virtual refugee shelter for the radical Muslim ideology" and described the period after Mamdani’s win as "the most dangerous time for our citizens". He also called Mamdani a "communist," a label the 34-year-old mayor-elect has rejected. Mamdani identifies as a "democratic socialist".
The actor, who lives primarily in Beverly Hills, went on to frame Mamdani’s leadership as a direct threat to private property and business interests. "This mayor will destroy this city. We are obligated to demand our rights for our private sanctuary, our businesses, our property that we all have worked so hard for," he said. "And this 35-year-old mayor has no right dictating the rules of socialism for a city built on our highest principles with brick and stone by hard-working Americans."
NO LEGAL PATH FOR PRESIDENTIAL INTERVENTION
Voight insisted that Mamdani’s mayoralty "should be terminated immediately" and warned residents: "You -- the people of the greatest city, New York -- are in danger of losing your city to this communist fool."
His call for Trump to overturn the election ignores the fact that the US president has no authority to remove or block a mayor chosen by local voters. New York’s mayor is elected through a citywide democratic process governed by state and law.
Mamdani secured a majority of the vote, defeating former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who contested as an Independent after losing to Mamdani in the Democratic primary. The mayor-elect is scheduled to take office on 1 January.
