Kiran Rao's latest film, Laapataa Ladies, has been chosen to represent India at the 98th Academy Awards. The announcement was made by the Film Federation of India (FFI), which is the governing body for Indian cinema.

The film, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, tells the story of two women who embark on a journey to find their missing husbands. The film's selection as India's official entry for the Oscars is a significant achievement for Rao and the Indian film industry.
Laapataa Ladies stars Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam and Ravi Kishan in pivotal roles.
The 98th Academy Awards will be held on March 9, 2025. A total of five films will be shortlisted for the Best Foreign Language Film award. The winner will be announced at the Oscars ceremony.
