Comedian Kunal Kamra has again found himself embroiled in controversy as in his recent stand-up show, he mocked Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde with a “traitor" remark using a song from the Bollywood movie “Dil To Pagal Hai."

His remarks have drawn a strong backlash from the Shiv Sena, which has demanded his arrest. The party also said that it would take legal action against Kamra. Meanwhile, a complaint has been filed by a Sena leader in connection to the matter.

Kunal Kamra’s ‘Gaddar’ Jibe At Eknath Shinde

Giving a musical touch to Maharashtra politics on lines of ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’ song ‘Bholi Si Surat’, Kamra during his show made fun of Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde drawing laughter from the audience.

“Meri nazar se tum dekho to gaddar nazar wo aaye. Haaye!" he said during his show. He also posted the video clip of the “song" on his X handle.

Kamra during his comedy show was referring to Shinde’s 2022 rebellion in which he split the Shiv Sena into two – the Shinde faction and the Uddhav Thackeray faction.

Shiv Sena Workers Vandalise Studio

According to sources, the Shiv Sena workers on Sunday vandalised the Mumbai studio ‘The Unicontinental Mumbai’, where Kunal Kamra’s show was filmed in which he mocked Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Following the incident, a complaint was filed at Khar Police station by Rahool Kanal, a Shiv Sena leader.

Shiv Sena Reacts Sharply, Attacks Uddhav Sena

Shiv Sena spokesperson Krishna Hegde condemned Kamra’s comments, stating that party workers were angered by his remarks.

Slamming Kamra over his remarks on Shinde, Sena leader Milind Deora took to X and wrote, “Mocking Eknath Shinde ji — a self-made leader who rose from driving an auto to leading India’s 2nd largest state — reeks of classist arrogance. India is rejecting entitled monarchs & their bootlicking ecosystem that pretends to champion meritocracy & democracy."

Shiv Sena leader and Thane MP Naresh Mhaske attacked Uddhav Thackeray faction and said that Sena (UBT) has left with no party workers and therefore, they are hiring paid workers, indicating towards Kamra. He further stated that the comedian had taken money from Udddhav Sena to insult Shinde.

“We know that you (Kunal Kamra) have taken money from Uddhav Sena and Sanjay Raut, but let me be very clear that do not challenge our pride else, you will not even be able to live in Maharashtra or any other part of the country," Mhaske said.

“Sena (UBT) have left with no party workers and that’s why you’re supposed to hire the services of a paid worker. We will not hold back because we are the true followers of Bala Saab Thackeray," he added.
