In a major development, the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has announced plans to disband and lay down arms, hinting at a possible end to its decades-long conflict with Turkey.
The announcement was made on Monday through the Firat News Agency, a media outlet closely linked to the group.
The announcement is a part of a new peace initiative with Ankara, just days after the PKK held a party congress in northern Iraq, which was aimed at deciding the future of the organisation.
