The anti-immigration protests that have rocked Los Angeles entered the sixth day on Wednesday even as an uneasy calm was reported across the city after the first night of a curfew was lifted. The stir has now spread to several other US cities, including Austin, Texas, Chicago, New York, Dallas and Denver, with more planned over the weekend.

Authorities have so far detained or arrested as many as 400 people since Saturday, including 330 undocumented migrants and 157 others for assault and blocking, including one for the attempted murder of a cop. Two men have so far been charged with throwing Molotov cocktails at police officers in two separate incidents in Los Angeles, US Attorney Bill Essayli said.

Thousands of troops, including 700 Marines, have been deployed by US President Donald Trump's administration to quell the protests, with them given the authority to detain people until police can arrest them.
