More than 200 Indian passengers have been stranded at remote Diyarbakir Airport (DIY) in Turkey for over 16 hours after a Virgin Atlantic flight from London to Mumbai made an emergency landing due to a medical emergency.

The plane was stuck at the airport- which is not equipped for handling the same- as arrangement for an alternate aircraft is taking time. During landing, the plane sustained technical glitch, passengers were told.

One passenger told CNN News18, “Emergency landing was made as one passenger had a panic attack. The airport in Turkey is not efficient enough to handle the aircraft.

Passengers urged the airline and relevant authorities to arrange alternative transportation as soon as possible.

Sharing the ordeal, the passenger said, “We’ve not received accommodations and we can’t even leave the airport as this is a military base."
