Ahead of his scheduled talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump, on Monday night said many elements of a final agreement had already been agreed to, however, added that much remains.
He also said he was “very much" looking forward to the call with Putin.
“Tomorrow morning I will be speaking to President Putin concerning the War in Ukraine. Many elements of a Final Agreement have been agreed to, but much remains," Trump wrote in a post on his social media platform Truth Social.
“Thousands of young soldiers, and others, are being killed. Each week brings 2,500 soldier deaths, from both sides, and it must end NOW," he said.
“I look very much forward to the call with President Putin," Trump added.
On Monday, Trump had said that he planned to speak to Putin on Tuesday and discuss ending the war in Ukraine after what he said had been positive talks between Steve Witkoff, his special envoy, and Putin in Moscow.
The US President said a lot of work had been done over the weekend and he thought Washington had a very good chance of bringing the Ukraine war to an end.
Trump said he would speak about land and “power plants" but gave no details.

The US President is trying to win Putin’s support for a 30-day ceasefire proposal that Ukraine accepted last week, as both sides continued trading heavy aerial strikes through the weekend and Russia moved closer to ejecting Ukrainian forces from their months-old foothold in the western Russian region of Kursk.
Officials in the United States had also expressed optimism that a Ukraine-Russia ceasefire deal could be reached in “weeks", ahead of talks between the two leaders.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin confirmed on Monday that Putin would talk to Trump by phone on Tuesday.
