In his victory speech following the Canadian federal election, Mark Carney said he has been warning for months that America “wants our land, our resources, our country".
He asserted, “President Trump is trying to break us so that America can own us, that will never ever happen."
Mark Carney’s electoral victory was heavily influenced by the charged atmosphere of US-Canada relations. His campaign gained momentum amidst Donald Trump’s controversial remarks regarding Canada’s sovereignty.
Canada now finds itself at a “hinge moment" of history, Mark Carney said, adding, “Our old relationship of integration with the US is now over." Describing it as a tragedy, he said, “We are over the shock of the American betrayal, we have to take care of each other."
