From Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday on September 17 to Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, the BJP is observing a nationwide Seva Pakhwada (Fortnight of Service). As part of this, party president JP Nadda has chalked out a new mission for his parliamentarians—take the message of Swadeshi, GST rate cuts, and cleanliness directly to the people.
In a virtual meeting with BJP’s Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha lawmakers, Nadda outlined a week-long action plan between September 22 and 29. During this period, lawmakers and senior leaders will remain in their constituencies to spearhead a Swadeshi campaign, urging citizens to “buy only indigenous products".
During the recent meeting with party members of Parliament from NDA in the special training programme on September 8, PM Modi oultlined a broad framework on how it wascrucial for each member of Parliament to have such melas in their constituency to propagate the use of indigenous products.
Drawing an analogy on the second day of a two-day workshop organised by the BJP, the PM had said: “Just as a ship at sea needs a push to sail through strong winds, and a vehicle requires power in its tyres to gain speed, similarly, India needs the collective effort of parliamentarians to carry the momentum of reforms forward."
He urged MPs to actively interact with people and raise awareness on the tangible benefits of these reforms. To strengthen this effort, he advised them to hold vyapar sammelans (trade conferences), recommending at least 25 such events per constituency. The PM said that the goal is to create a lasting impact on public understanding of the reforms.
The meeting by the BJP chief on Saturday highlighted how shops and marketplaces will see posters and stickers with the bold message: “Say with pride, we are Swadeshi."
Nadda directed MPs to ensure that the campaign is carried out every single day on a large scale, making it a visible movement on the ground.
The BJP chief also reminded MPs to highlight the government’s reduction in GST rates as a tangible relief for the common man. In addition, the upcoming Sansad Khel Mahotsav (Parliamentarians’ Sports Festival) will also be used as a platform to spread awareness about both Swadeshi and GST reforms.
Equally significant will be the push for the Cleanliness Campaign, where Nadda stressed the need to actively involve the public, making it a participatory drive rather than a symbolic exercise.
The BJP leadership believes that combining these initiatives under the Seva Pakhwada umbrella will not only honour the spirit of service but also reinforce the government’s reformist image while strengthening its connection with the grassroots.
