Nepal General Election 2026: Voting is underway across Nepal with over 18.9 million eligible voters expected to take part in choosing representatives for the 275-member House of Representatives (HoR). The poll marks Nepal’s first general election since Gen Z protests on September 8 and 9 forced the resignation of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and led to the dissolution of Parliament.

The developments triggered a fresh political process that culminated in the current elections. According to Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari, authorities expect a higher voter turnout this time.

He said that extensive voter awareness campaigns have been carried out to reduce the number of invalid ballots. Bhandari also urged political parties, voters and officials to cooperate to ensure the polls are conducted smoothly.
