Elon Musk, the world’s richest person, has officially launched a new political party in the United States, adding politics to his already wide-ranging list of ventures. Musk announced the creation of the America Party on Saturday, saying it would challenge what he described as the country’s “one-party system."
The move comes after Musk’s public fallout with US President Donald Trump, who he once supported and even served under as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
The tech billionaire had criticised Trump’s flagship spending bill, warning they would deepen the national debt, and has vowed to fight lawmakers who backed the budget. “When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy," he shared on X, the social media platform he owns.
Now with his own political party, Musk is moving further into public life, while still running or holding key roles in some of the most high-profile tech companies in the world.
