Ghislaine Maxwell, a longtime associate of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, told a top administration official that she never saw US President Donald Trump engage in any improper or illegal acts during his friendship with Epstein, according to transcripts released by the Justice Department on Friday (local time).

The US Department of Justice released a transcript of a previously undisclosed interview with Ghislaine Maxwell, 63, who is currently serving a 20-year federal prison sentence for sex trafficking and other crimes related to Epstein’s abuse of underage girls.

The transcripts and audio, covering two days of interviews in late July between Maxwell and Todd Blanche, the former Trump defence lawyer tapped to the No. 2 post at the Justice Department, according to the New York Times.

Maxwell, who has been seeking to overturn or reduce her 20-year sentence, had repeatedly claimed not to have witnessed events when asked to provide details of known incidents. Her interview with Blanche was opposed by Epstein’s victims and their families, saying she would say anything to protect herself and Trump.

Trump’s A ‘Gentleman’

During the interview, Maxwell – who was convicted in 2021 for aiding Epstein’s trafficking of underage girls – said there were no significant details in the US government’s investigative files that had not already been made public.

“I actually never saw the president in any type of massage setting," she said in the conference room of a Florida courthouse. “I never witnessed the president in any inappropriate setting in any way."

Maxwell also described Trump as “always very cordial" and “very kind" to her, calling him a “gentleman in all respects". She said, “I admire his extraordinary achievement in becoming the president now. And I like him, and I’ve always liked him."

‘There Is No List’

Blanche’s unusual interview with Maxwell was followed by her transfer from a restrictive prison in Florida to a minimum-security prison camp in Texas, which was also the subject of controversy,. She has tread lightly on the matter of Epstein files, particularly when it came to Trump, according to NYT.

The Epstein files are a sensitive topic for Trump’s MAGA base, who have long championed the unfounded theory that powerful elites orchestrated a massive child sex trafficking cover-up. Trump, who promised to release everything related to Epstein, has asked his followers to drop their “obsession" with the sex offender.

Trump has not ruled out issuing a pardon for Maxwell. When asked directly whether the Epstein Files existed, Maxwell responded, “There is no list that I am aware of. I’ve never, at any time, at least during the period of time when I was – present."

Speaking about Epstein’s death, she said, “I do not believe he died by suicide, no. In prison, where I am, they will kill you or they will pay somebody, a prisoner, to kill you for $25 worth of commissary."

Epstein was arrested on federal charges of sex trafficking minors but was found dead in his jail cell in 2019. He had pleaded not guilty at the time of his arrest. His sudden death, coupled with his connections to high-profile political and business figures, sparked a wave of conspiracy theories alleging a cover-up.
