Donald Trump could pick the Florida governor for the top cabinet role, sidelining Hegseth over sexual allegation assault he faces.

President-elect Donald Trump could select Florida governor Ron DeSantis, the man who ran a Republican presidential primary bid against him earlier this year, for the role of US defence secretary, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The newspaper said that there are rumours that Pete Hegseth, the Fox News personality Trump chose for the top role, could be replaced by DeSantis over the sexual assault allegations he faces.

Some Republican senators have expressed concerns over Hegseth’s appointment, leading Donald Trump to wonder if he could pick the man he called ‘Desanctimonious’ on the primary campaign trail.

DeSantis, however, pulled out of the White House race and extended his support to Trump in January.
